What 1942 Pacific Front is and who it suits
This is a turn-based strategy game set in the Pacific theatre of World War 2. The listing presents it as a follow-on to 1941 Frozen Front, and this time the focus is naval warfare. Each turn you move and fight with a force of ground, air and sea units across a map divided into hexagonal tiles.
It suits players who like planning several moves ahead and want historical units from both sides. The listing puts the emphasis on tactics: choosing which units to commit, where to place them, and when to strike.
Choosing a side and fighting through campaigns
You can lead the U.S. Army through its campaign or command the Japanese forces on their missions. Both sides field infantry, artillery, tanks, warplanes, battleships and submarines, and the listing says the units are historical.
Campaigns and standalone missions are the structure of play. Each mission sets a list of objectives for the forces you command.
Moving, attacking and defending units on the map
Attacks range from torpedoes and bombs to artillery fire from positions set up in rough terrain. Bomber wings are used against enemy headquarters, and submarines can strike from unexpected positions.
Ground units clear beaches, lagoons and straits, and infantry and tanks are used to take out enemy positions. Your aircraft carriers and battleships have to be defended, and your army must be kept supplied with goods and ammunition.
Keeping units in the field between battles
During a battle you can repair damaged units, camouflage them to make them harder to spot, and fortify them in place. The listing presents these as ways to keep a force fighting for longer.
Multiplayer is available through what the listing calls hot-hand battles. The game also supports Google Play game services and is built for tablets as well as phones, according to the listing.
Free to play and in-app purchases
The game is free to play. Various items can be bought through in-app purchases, and the listing notes that these can be deactivated in your device settings.
The listing also describes the graphics as detailed and the sound as realistic, though these are the developer's own claims.
