Reading a text-only fantasy novel

Choice of Games publishes this interactive fantasy novel, written by Josh Labelle, which runs to 450,000 words. There are no graphics and no sound effects. Everything comes through the prose and the choices you make as you read, which suits people who prefer to picture a scene themselves.

Starting as an elf or a human in Kanda

The kingdom of Kanda has been at war with Queen Nidana for centuries, and her army is built from enchanted clockwork iron constructs. Your character starts as one of two kinds of adventurer. An elf comes from the Sanctuaries to the west, which the queen's machines reduced to ash long ago, or a human comes from Ridgebank, one of the few human holdouts left.

Resisting the queen or spying for her

The central choice is whether to overthrow Queen Nidana or join her as a spy. The war is still spreading, with more of the kingdom falling each day. Your decisions set which side you end up on, and the story changes depending on the path you take.

Dungeon relics and ways to earn coin

Relics recovered from an elven dungeon can change the course of the story. Your character can make a living by helping people, plundering dungeons, or following the coin wherever it leads.
