The app listing, the version table and the download step are laid out by this site’s stylesheet. With stylesheets switched off, or blocked before they arrive, none of that layout exists, so the page is not shown.

Accelerating research

Academia.edu is a research-sharing site where academics post their papers, and this Android app is its mobile version. It is aimed at people who want to read current research on a subject, including students, researchers and anyone following a field. Using it requires an Academia.edu account.
The listing describes papers from researchers around the world, with more than 23 million available to browse. Most of the app is built around finding, saving and reading those papers, plus a small social layer for following other academics.
Search covers thousands of topics, so a person can look up a subject and move through the results to find recent work. The listing also describes a discovery feed for new research, which suits someone who wants to see what has just been posted rather than run a specific query.
Papers open in the app for reading. The listing does not describe a separate reader or any formats beyond the papers themselves.
The Library keeps papers a person wants to come back to. Saved items can be read later in the app or on the desktop version of Academia.edu, so a paper found on a phone during a commute can be opened again at a computer.
Because saving is tied to the account, the Library depends on signing in.
The app lets users find other academics working on the same topics and connect with them. A feed shows what friends and colleagues are currently working on, which is the main way to follow someone's new papers without searching for them.
These social features also depend on an Academia.edu account.
Researchers who upload their own work can see who is reading their papers and viewing their profile. This is the feature aimed at authors rather than readers, and it shows the audience for each paper.
It is available only through the account that owns those papers.
The build we hold is Academia.edu 1.54.31 (APKS split bundle) for Android 10 and up.
