Art Heist Puzzle is a tile puzzle game for Android. Each level breaks a famous painting into a grid of tiles, and you slide them back into order until the picture is whole. It is aimed at people who enjoy puzzles and want some art history alongside them.
The game has over 2,500 levels. Each one is a different painting, so the picture changes every time you start a new puzzle.
The core action is sliding tiles into empty space on the grid. You move pieces until the image is restored to its original form. Each level is a complete picture, so you can see what you are working toward from the start.
The listing does not describe timed play, scoring or other modes. The game is built around finishing each restoration.
The puzzles use real masterpieces by named artists. The listing names Van Gogh, Monet, Da Vinci, Klimt, Hiroshige, Vermeer, Klee and Rousseau, and says there are dozens more beyond those.
Because every level uses a real painting, the collection doubles as a way to see a range of styles and periods, from Japanese woodblock work to Renaissance and modern painting.
Finishing a puzzle unlocks a fact about the painting, the artist, or the historical moment that shaped it. The developer says these facts are hand-researched rather than generated.
The facts are short, so each one fits between puzzles. Over many levels they add up to a loose introduction to the background of the works you have restored.
