The As Dusk Falls companion app makes making choices in game easy.
Senior reviews editor
The companion app is an add-on for As Dusk Falls, the story game it is named after. It does nothing on its own, so the game has to be installed first.
It suits groups playing As Dusk Falls together, where each person can use a phone or tablet as a way to take part in the story's decisions. The developer describes it as a way to make in-game choices easier to manage.
The build we hold is As Dusk Falls Companion App 0.1.230445 (APK) for Android 5.1 and up.

The phone and the game have to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Once they are, the game recognizes the phone as an input device.
To set it up, open the Change Input Device option on the game screen and select the phone icon. The listing describes this as the only step needed before play.
Players vote for or against each in-game decision from their own device. The listing notes that these choices can lead to unexpected consequences for the characters.
In multiplayer, one player can override a choice instead of going with the vote.
The app also handles the quick time action events that come up during play, so those can be completed from the phone instead of the game screen.
Together with voting and overrides, this lets the phone act as the control surface for the choices and timed actions in a session.
The developer says the app reveals insights about yourself and the people you play with, based on the underlying values behind each decision.
The listing does not describe how these insights are presented, so this is limited to what the developer states about their purpose.
