A top-down 2D tank shooter for short battles

Awesome Tanks is a top-down 2D shooter in which you drive a tank against enemy tanks and bosses. The developer describes it as a classic of the genre, rebuilt with new graphics and a new physics engine. It suits players who want fast, self-contained battles rather than a long story.

Each stage asks you to destroy enemy tanks and bosses, and some stages contain secret rooms full of bonuses. The game is built around two-thumb touch controls, one thumb for each of the two main inputs.

Stealth and tactics in combat

The developer lists a tactical mechanic in which you sneak up on enemies from behind. You can also hide in bushes to wait for an opening. These options change how a fight plays out compared with simply driving toward targets and firing.

The physics engine governs how tanks move and interact with the arena, so positioning matters during a fight. Stealth and cover are the two tools the listing points to for approaching enemies that would otherwise shoot first.

Upgrading tank stats and weapons with coins

Coins collected during play can be spent to raise your tank's stats. The same coins can also buy weapons, and existing weapons can be improved after you own them.

The game also tracks multiple achievements, which give a set of goals to work toward beyond clearing stages.

Survival mode and procedurally generated Arena levels

Survival mode throws an endless stream of enemy tanks at you, and the game records your results so you can try to beat previous scores. It is a separate way to play from the stage-based campaign.

Arena mode uses procedurally generated levels, so the layout is created by the game rather than fixed in advance. That gives a different map each time you enter the mode.
