Aztec Returns is a solitaire tile game in the style of Shisen-sho, a Japanese tile game also known in some places as four rivers. The tiles are Aztec hieroglyphs rather than the usual Mahjong-style tokens, and the listing describes the art as drawn from ancient Aztec culture.
The aim is to clear the whole board by removing every matching pair. It suits people who like Mahjong-type layouts and prefer to play alone, with no opponent and no timer mentioned in the listing.
Only two matching tiles can be removed at a time. A pair comes off only if you can link the two tiles with a path that turns at most three times, running horizontally or vertically.
The path can take a U, I, L or Z shape. It cannot pass through another tile or a blocked square, so it has to cross open space only. Working out which pairs have a clear route is the main task on each board.
A board ends in one of two ways: when every tile is gone, or when no legal move is left. Either way the game then moves you on or ends the round.
The listing says you go through all the levels in sequence, each one a fresh layout of tiles to clear.
