What BandHelper covers for a working band
The listing presents BandHelper as more than a songbook. It covers the band's communication, rehearsal, live performance and business side in one app. It is aimed at gigging bands and at the sub players who step in for them.
Most of the tools are for a band that books regular shows, shares charts with several people and needs a record of what it earns. A solo performer would use only part of it.
Sharing set lists, charts and gig details
Set lists and songs are distributed to bandmates automatically, and edits to set lists, lyrics and chords sync as you make them. Gig invitations and confirmations follow a standard format, and the app keeps one organized record of each gig's details.
A sub player can be given the charts and recordings for a gig without the rest of the band's materials being sent to them. The listing describes this as the way to brief a stand-in before a show.
Rehearsing with recordings and chord charts
Reference recordings play back with speed and loop controls, so a difficult section can be slowed and repeated. Chords can be transposed for a different singer, a capo position or horn keys.
Notes and voice memos from earlier rehearsals stay attached to the songs so they can be reviewed before the next session.
Running a live show from the app
Keyboard, effects and lighting settings can be configured to change as the set moves from one song to the next. Backing tracks, click tracks and video presentations play from within the app during a performance.
The interface can be customized, and foot switches can be used for hands-free control. Custom fields hold personal notes and reminders for each song or gig.
Money, bookings and venue paperwork
Income and expenses are tracked in the app, and band members can view their earnings. A booking list and a set of industry contacts keep the band's dealings with promoters and venues in one place.
The app can also produce stage plots to send to venues and invoices to send to clients.
