What the app controls and who it suits

Bose SoundTouch is the control app for SoundTouch, a family of wireless speakers meant for use around the home. The developer says the speakers can play one track everywhere or a different track in each room, and the app is what sets that up and changes it.

It suits people who already own SoundTouch speakers and want to run them from a phone. Playback is started and changed in the app, which is where the speakers' sources are chosen.

Streaming services and saved presets

Browsing and playback work across Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, TuneIn, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio and Deezer from inside the app. The developer lists these as sources the speakers can play directly.

Presets can be set to living playlists, such as Spotify's Discover Weekly or Pandora's Thumbprint Radio, so the list refreshes on its own. The developer says these can be started from the speaker's buttons without having to find your phone.

TuneIn radio, podcasts and live sports

TuneIn gives access to more than 100,000 radio stations from around the world. The developer also lists tastemaker-curated playlists, live sports, concerts, 24/7 news and podcasts across many genres.

This section of the app is useful for anyone who wants talk, news or live broadcasts on the speakers alongside music.

Playing your own library and multiple rooms

For music you own, the developer says you can connect a laptop or a NAS drive so the speakers can play your stored albums and artists. This is the route for a local collection rather than a streaming service.

Because the speakers can run in separate rooms, one room can play the same music as the rest of the house or a different track entirely. The app handles both arrangements.
