What the random video chat app does

Chatspin Random Video Chat Duo is a video chat app for phones and tablets that pairs you with strangers through the device camera. The matches can be random people anywhere in the world, or people nearby.

The developer says the app launched in 2015 and claims more than 1 billion connections have been made through it. Each session is a live, face-to-face camera chat rather than a text conversation.

Starting a random video chat

To start, you swipe right to begin a new live chat with someone else. The listing says a chat starts straight away, with no setup step in between.

You choose between a worldwide match and a match with someone nearby. The listed chat features are free to use.

Anonymous chatting and face filters

The app has no profiles, so you can chat without filling in a personal page. The developer describes this as anonymous use.

Face filters can be applied to your camera feed during a call, which changes how you appear to the person you are talking to.

Joining video chatrooms

Besides one-to-one matches, you can join video chatrooms that are already open. The listing describes joining them as quick and simple.

Chatrooms sit alongside the random matching, so you can move between a single stranger and a room of people from the same screen.

Who the app is for

The app suits people who want short camera chats with strangers and do not want to build a contact list or profile. It is a fit for anyone looking for live, unscripted conversations with people they have not met before.

Google Play rates the app Mature 17+.
