Compass: a degree compass with a rotating bezel

By Irfan Rosli

Headings in degrees, with north, south, east and west
Large numbers and a plain layout for quick readings
Rotating bezel to set a direction by hand
Aimed at camping trips and unfamiliar terrain

What the Compass app is for

Compass is a phone compass for Android. The developer pitches it for camping trips, for crossing unfamiliar land, and for getting your bearings after you have lost your way. It is meant to be used the way you would use a handheld compass, with no setup beyond opening it.

The listing describes the app as precise and says it works as a pocket compass you can carry on any outing. It suits anyone who wants a compass on their phone for walking, camping or driving through places they do not know.

Reading your heading in degrees

The main screen shows your heading in degrees, along with the cardinal points north, south, east and west. The developer says the numbers are large and the design is built to be read at a glance.

Beyond the raw degree figure, the listing says the app is designed around readability rather than extra screens or menus. The developer frames this as a deliberate choice for the user experience.

Setting a direction with the rotating bezel

Compass includes a rotating bezel, the ring around a traditional compass that you turn to mark a bearing. In the app you rotate it to set the direction you want to travel, which the listing presents as the way to get more practical, professional navigation.

This lets you fix a target bearing on screen and then read how far your current heading is from it. The listing does not go into further detail on how the bezel reports the offset.

Using a phone compass outdoors

The developer lists camping, navigating unknown territory and getting lost as the situations the app is for. It is presented as a backup you keep on the phone for when you need a direction and have no other reference.

Because it runs as a standalone compass screen, it is simple to open in the field. The listing gives no details beyond these uses.
