What the Cubasis LE 3 Trial demo covers
Cubasis LE 3 Trial is a demo of a music production app for Android phones, tablets and Chromebooks. It is a reduced version of Cubasis 3, and it keeps the same layout, so someone trying it sees the screens of the full app. Musicians who want to record, arrange and mix on a touchscreen are the people it is built for.
The demo runs for 30 minutes at a time. Once a session ends, you can restart it as often as you like. The developer links to the full Cubasis 3 app on Google Play, and to a comparison page that lists what the full version adds.
Recording and playing parts with audio, MIDI and a virtual keyboard
The demo gives you up to four audio tracks and four MIDI tracks. Audio tracks take recorded sound, and MIDI tracks hold note data that drives instrument sounds. The on-screen keyboard can play those instruments directly, and it has a note repeat setting that controls how held notes repeat.
External gear can connect through two assignable physical inputs and stereo outputs. The developer says hardware support on Android is limited and does not guarantee full compatibility with every device.
Built-in instrument sounds and demo loops
MicroSonic is the demo's instrument set, with 25 sounds built on HALion Sonic. It also includes drum kits by Allen Morgan. You can build tracks from these sounds without bringing in any outside samples.
The demo also comes with audio and MIDI loops. You can drop them into a project as a starting point for a beat or a part.
Mixing and editing tracks in the demo
The mixer carries six effect processors, which you can use to shape the level and tone of each track. The engine works with 32-bit floating point audio, which the developer cites as the internal audio resolution.
The Sample Editor works on audio clips. The MIDI Editor works on the note data inside MIDI tracks. Between them, the two editors cover changing both recorded audio and played notes after they are down.
