What the Dailymotion social video app is for

Dailymotion Social Video App is a video service built around a personal feed. You follow channels and friends, and new uploads from them collect in one place. It also carries TV shows, news and sports, so it can stand in for some of the viewing you would otherwise do on a television or a news site.

It suits people who want to keep up with a handful of channels and topics without searching for each video. It also suits people who like to talk about what they watch, since the app is built around sharing views with others.

Following channels and friends in your feed

The feed is organized around what you choose to follow. Updates from favorite channels appear as new videos are posted, so you do not need to visit each channel to see what is new. Following friends adds their activity to the same feed.

The developer says the feed can be shaped further by how you interact with videos and channels. Over time, that interaction is what gives your feed its particular mix of subjects.

Finding new topics through the recommendation system

The developer says its recommendation system is designed for exploration rather than keeping you watching. It is meant to surface channels and topics you have not followed yet, so you can move from one subject into a related one.

You can also go deeper on a topic you already follow. The listing describes this as a way to dig into your favorite subjects, with the aim of seeing new perspectives on them.

Commenting and talking about videos

You can share your opinions and ideas on videos and join conversations as they happen. The listing describes these conversations as taking place in real time.

The developer describes the discussion space as a safe one. Communities form around the interests you choose, so the conversations you join will tend to share a subject.

Saving videos and watching TV, news and sports

Bookmarks let you save a video and come back to it later, which suits clips you spot when you have little time. The bookmark list sits alongside the feed rather than replacing it.

TV shows, news and sports are part of the same catalog, so you can switch between a programme and a channel's regular uploads without leaving the app.
