What Dash is and who it suits

Dash is a display that sits outside a meeting room and shows whether it is free, who has it booked and what is coming up. It runs on Android tablets, phones and smart TVs, and the listing also mentions purpose-built scheduling panels from hardware partners that come with Dash preinstalled. It is aimed at offices and sites with shared meeting rooms that need a clear view of room use.

The free version is a read-only room display. Room scheduling, which covers booking, check-in, finding free rooms and branding, needs a Dash Business subscription at $3.99 per display per month.

Showing room status and hiding meeting details

Each display shows colored status, so the room's state can be read from a distance, while the full schedule is shown up close. Five display modes are listed: a room display for outside the door, a countdown display for inside the room, and three dashboard displays for lobbies or areas near several rooms. A single dashboard display can show several conference rooms, which the listing says means paying for one device rather than one per room.

Branding covers colors, a logo and a background image. Titles, attendees and other meeting details can be hidden if they are sensitive. The listing describes over 30 configurable options and says the display is available in 26 languages, with more possible on request.

Booking and changing meetings from the room

From the display, someone standing at the door can book the room for an impromptu meeting in one tap or set a later time. Adding attendees sends video call invites to colleagues who are working from home. A running meeting can be extended, or ended early so the room is free for the next booking.

If the room is already taken, the display can find a free conference room nearby and book it in one tap. Booking from a desk works through Outlook or Google Calendar, and both sides stay in step with the room calendar.

Freeing rooms that nobody uses

Check-in is optional. If nobody checks in, Dash removes the room from the meeting so others can book it. The organizer's and attendees' calendars are left alone, so an online meeting can carry on without the room.

If check-ins are missed several times in a row on a recurring series, Dash can permanently remove the room from that series.

Connecting calendars and managing many displays

Dash connects directly to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, and to other services the device can show through its built-in calendar, such as on-premises Exchange and CalDAV. The developer says there is no middle server, so each display reads the room calendar itself and the developer does not see meeting titles, descriptions or attendees.

For larger estates, the Dash Enterprise web dashboard and an MDM system such as Intune or Hexnode can deploy and configure displays centrally. The dashboard supports single sign-on with SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect, user roles with two-factor authentication, and meeting room analytics. Enterprise pricing is not given in the listing, which asks people to get in touch.
