What Dex is and who it suits

Dex is an independent app for people who collect Pokémon Trading Card Game cards. The developer states that it is not produced, endorsed or associated with The Pokémon Company, and that the card images belong to that company.

It covers a physical collection: you add the cards you own, see which cards from a set you are still missing, and look up any card in a database of English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese sets. Collectors who sort and value their cards, and players who build decks, are the people it is aimed at.

Scanning cards and tracking your collection

The camera scanner adds cards to your collection by reading them through the phone camera. Once cards are in, the collection view shows what is still missing from each set.

Collection stats break your cards down across sets, variants and card types, so you can see where your collection is concentrated and where the gaps are.

Searching the card database

The database holds every set in English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, so you can browse a set from start to finish or jump straight to one card.

Search and filters match on card name, artist, type and rarity. This is useful when you want every illustration by one artist or every card of a given rarity in a set.

Card values, purchase notes and folders

Dex estimates what your collection is worth using market prices, which the developer describes as up to date. The result is an estimate for the whole collection, not a sale offer.

Each card can carry notes: what you paid, where you bought it, who you got it from, and anything else you want to keep. Custom folders then separate cards for trades, favourites and duplicates, so the collection can be sorted the way you use it.

Building decks and sharing with friends

The deck builder includes a hand simulator and draw odds, which help you test how a deck is likely to open before you play it.

A friend system lets you share your collection and compare cards with other collectors. Light and dark themes with a choice of accent colours change how the app looks.
