What Dolby On is for and who it suits

Dolby On is a recording app for Android phones, built around Dolby's audio processing. The developer lists it as a way to record without a separate microphone, interface or studio booking, so the phone itself handles the capture and the processing.

It is aimed at people who record sound often: musicians capturing ideas and lyrics, people rehearsing or recording beats, podcasters, and anyone who keeps voice memos. The listing names all of these uses directly.

Recording songs, instruments, podcasts and voice memos

A recording starts with one tap. The listing names songs, sounds, instruments, podcasts, rehearsals, voice memos, lyrics, beats and general ideas as the things you can capture.

Because the same recorder covers a spoken memo and a full rehearsal, you do not switch apps depending on what you are capturing.

Studio effects applied during recording

The app applies its effects automatically, so you do not set up a chain before you press record. The listing names noise reduction, limiting, spatial audio and EQ, and says there are more beyond those four.

Noise reduction targets background sound in the room, which is the main reason the listing gives for skipping studio time. Limiting keeps loud peaks from clipping, and EQ shapes the tonal balance of the take.

Recording live music and video

The developer says the app records live music and videos, with the same automatic effects applied to the captured audio. This suits gigs, jam sessions and clips where you want the sound cleaned up as it is captured.

The listing points to playback of a recording as the way to hear what the effects did to it.
