What DriverDash is and who it is for
DriverDash is WEX's mobile companion to a fleet card. It is for drivers whose fleet card account is run by a manager who can send invitations. The developer describes it as a way to keep the same controls a fleet card gives you, but paid through your phone at a fuel pump or charging station.
Access starts with an email invitation from the fleet account manager. The email links to a page where you create a username and password, which you then use to sign in. The developer says the app will not work at the pump if it was installed some other way, so the invitation route is the one that counts.
Paying at a pump or charging station
Before fueling, you open the app and tap Activate Station, then pick the pump or charger you are at. When the account prompt appears, you confirm with your Driver ID, a fingerprint scan, or facial recognition. Biometric unlock is the option that removes the need to remember the Driver ID.
The developer says mobile payment gives better protection against fraud than a plastic card. It does not say how that protection works, and nothing in the listing describes the mechanism.
Odometer readings and electronic receipts
You can enter the odometer reading from within the vehicle, so the mileage can be logged before you leave the seat. The listing presents this as a convenience and gives no further detail on where the figure goes.
Receipts for each transaction are captured electronically in the app rather than printed. The listing does not say how far back the receipt history goes or how it can be exported.
Signing in and linking your Driver ID
Your account is tied to the fleet card account that invited you. Sign-in uses the username and password you set up from the invitation email. Once you are signed in, the Driver ID you would otherwise type at the pump can be replaced by a fingerprint or facial scan on the same device.
The developer's listing points to fleetdriverdash.com for more information about the service.
