What Dulook DXB is and who it suits

Dulook DXB is a prayer times app published by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai. The listing says its calculations use astronomical criteria issued by a government institution, worked out under the supervision of the International Astronomical Center.

It covers more than 50,000 cities in 190 countries, so it is aimed at Muslims who need local prayer times in many places. The listing also says its timings match the official ones for many countries.

Finding prayer times in any city

The app works out your location in one of three ways: automatically, by picking a point on a world map, or by choosing a city from a list organised by country. Once located, it calculates the day's prayer times for that place.

The listing says altitude is taken into account in the calculation. Specialists can change the criteria used for the calculation, which the developer offers for users who want that control.

Qibla direction and home screen widgets

The Qibla finder uses what the listing calls smart methods and augmented reality, with a 360-degree view to show the direction of the Qibla around you.

Widgets for the home screen come in several shapes and sizes, so prayer times can be read without opening the app.

Prayer times when the signs are not visible

For periods when the Sharia signs disappear, the app can calculate alternative prayer times. The listing says this is the only app that does this.

This is the feature most specific to the app's use of astronomical criteria, and the listing gives no further detail on how the alternative times are worked out.

Accessibility and an ad-free design

The listing describes the app as the first in this field to be friendly to people of determination, which is the term it uses for people with disabilities.

The listing also says the app carries no ads.
