What E.ON Drive is for
If you drive an electric car and need to charge it away from home, the practical question is which charging point to use and what it will cost before you plug in. E.ON Drive is a charging app from E.ON Digital Technology GmbH. The developer says it gives access to more than 800,000 charging points in Europe.
The developer pitches it at two kinds of driver: someone who charges now and then on a longer trip, and someone who charges on a regular basis at home or near work. The two tariffs described below are the main way it separates those cases. The listing names E.ON Energie Deutschland GmbH as the service provider behind the app.
Finding a charging point on a journey
The search can be narrowed by charging power, by plug type and by provider. For most cars the plug type and the maximum charging power decide whether a station is usable at all, so these filters remove the stations that would not work before you look at distance or price.
The developer says the app shows live availability, so you can see which points are currently open to use rather than relying on a map that may be out of date. The listing also says the search works from wherever a trip begins and finds a suitable station wherever the journey goes.
Starting a charge with the app or a card
A charge can be started from the app itself or with a charging card. The app is the route most drivers will use from a phone. The card is the alternative for anyone who would rather not rely on the phone at the charging point.
The listing says prices are shown clearly, so the cost of a session can be checked before it begins. The developer describes the layout as keeping the main information in view, so the station, its availability and its price can be read on one screen while you plan the stop.
Light and More tariffs for different driving
E.ON Drive offers two tariffs, Light and More. The developer says each suits a different pattern of charging, with Light and More matched to occasional and regular use respectively.
The choice is about how often you charge rather than which stations you can reach. Someone who charges rarely and someone who charges most weeks would be looking at different tariffs under the developer's description, and the listing presents them as flexible options rather than a single fixed plan.
Where the network reaches and who joins it
The developer names Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Poland as countries where the network is strong, and says it reaches many more. For a driver crossing borders, that is the detail that decides whether the app covers the route.
The listing invites users to join what it calls the E.ON Drive Community. It gives no further detail about what that involves, so the description of the app itself rests on the charging network, the filters, the live availability and the two tariffs.
