What the app covers and who it suits
The app is a practice tool for musicianship. It covers four areas: ear training, sight-singing, rhythm, and vocal technique. Its exercises run from a complete beginner's course up to advanced material for working musicians.
Students preparing for exams, self-taught singers and instrumentalists, and teachers who set work for a class can all use it. The developer says some music schools use it in their teaching.
Ear training for intervals, chords and scales
The Beginner's Course has hundreds of graded exercises on rhythm, notation, pitch, chords and scales. The complete ear training section adds intervals, chords, chord inversions, scales, harmonic progressions and melodies.
Customized exercises let you set the voicing, key, pitch range, cadences and time limits yourself. Interval Identification and Chord Identification are customized exercises included in the free version.
Sight-singing, rhythm and solfege practice
For sight-singing, on-screen scores are sung into the microphone, and the app gives feedback on pitch and timing. Rhythm exercises ask you to sight-read, dictate and tap back patterns, with feedback on each attempt.
The vocal trainer covers vocalizes, scale singing, interval singing and rhythmic precision. Solfege fundamentals teach movable-do, and Melodia follows the classic sight-singing book method.
Exam courses and jazz workshops
Aural training is set out for ABRSM aural tests 1 to 5, and RCM Voice material runs from Preparatory level to Level 8. The listing states that the app is not affiliated with either body.
Jazz workshops are aimed at advanced users. They cover jazz chords, progressions, swing rhythms, and sight-singing based on standards such as 'After You've Gone', 'Ja-Da' and 'St. Louis Blues'.
Progress stats and school assignments
Detailed stats show your progress day by day, so you can see which skills are strong and which need more work. Dictation, transcription and solfege are also covered outside the set courses.
If a school or choir uses EarMaster Cloud, you can link the app to that account and complete home assignments in it.
