Filmic Pro: Mobile Cine Camera

Shooting cinema-style video on a phone

Filmic Pro is a camera app for shooting video on a smartphone or tablet, with controls aimed at film work. The developer lists filmmakers, newscasters, teachers, vloggers and social media creators as its audience.

The developer also credits the app with use on several music videos and feature films, including Unsane, Tangerine and Stupid Love.

Choosing a focus and exposure mode

Version 7 adds a dedicated selector for focus and exposure modes. It offers three of them, so you can change how the camera handles focus and exposure from one control.

Manual sliders for exposure and zoom

The manual sliders were redesigned in version 7. The new Exposure/Zoom slider covers LV, ISO, shutter speed and zoom under one control.

Setting these by hand gives you direct control over the look of each shot, rather than relying only on automatic settings.

Automated rack focus and zoom moves

The pull points on the sliders were improved in version 7. They are used to set automated rack focus and zoom moves, so focus or framing can change during a shot without manual adjustment while recording.

Checking device support before shooting

The developer offers a free companion download called Filmic Pro Evaluator. It shows which of the app's capabilities your device supports.

The evaluator is a separate download from Filmic Pro itself.
