What the FM Radio app is for
FM Radio is Motorola Mobility's app for listening to broadcast FM stations on a Motorola phone. It covers the basics of tuning in: finding the stations in your area, keeping the ones you like, and listening while you do something else.
Its main pieces are station scanning, a saved favorites list, a sleep timer, song recording, a display of what is playing, and voice control through Google Assistant. People who mainly want radio on their phone, rather than streamed music, are the audience it describes.
Finding and saving stations
The app scans the FM band for stations. Once you have found the ones you want, you add them to a favorites list so you can return to them without scanning again.
This is the part of the app you would use every time you open it, since the saved list is what you go back to after the first setup.
Recording songs and checking what is playing
FM Radio can record songs from a broadcast as they play. The developer frames this around keeping the songs you like from the radio.
While a station is on, the app also shows live information about the track that is playing, so you can see what the station is broadcasting without waiting for the presenter to say it.
Sleep timer and listening through headphones or speaker
A sleep timer lets you set how long the radio plays before it stops, which suits listening in bed. You can listen through a wired headset, a Bluetooth headset, or the phone's loudspeaker.
The listing recommends plugging in a wired headset or a Digital TV dongle for the best reception, because either one serves as the FM antenna.
Hands-free control with Google Assistant
Google Assistant can manage the radio by voice, so you can change stations or control playback without touching the screen. A list of the supported commands is in the app's Options menu.
Voice commands work in U.S. English, UK English, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, French (EU), Italian, German and Spanish (EU).
