What the Ford app is for

Ford is the official app for owners of Ford vehicles. It works through the car's connected services, so it suits owners who want to control or check a vehicle from a phone, book servicing, or manage the paid services attached to the car.

The listing says the core features come at no extra cost. Some plans and services are bought separately, and those are covered below.

Remote start, locking and unlocking a Ford

Remote start, lock and unlock are the main remote functions. The app also lets you set the schedule for over-the-air software updates, either in the app or in the vehicle itself. A Wear OS smartwatch can send the same commands and show vehicle status.

Remote features need an activated vehicle modem. The listing warns that cellular networks and vehicle capability can limit them, and that the features vary by model. Message and data rates may apply.

Checking fuel, range, charge and location

The app shows fuel or range status and other vehicle stats. Phone As A Key sits in the same vehicle management area, and GPS tracking shows where the car is.

For electric models, the app shows charge levels, lets you precondition the vehicle, and gives public charging information in one place.

Booking service and managing Ford plans

You can choose a preferred dealer and schedule maintenance through the app. Connected services can be activated or managed from the same place, including BlueCruise, the Ford Connectivity Package and the Ford Security Package. Trials and plans are offered where available, and some are bought within the app.

Ford Rewards lets you redeem points for Ford Service, accessories and available Connected Services. Earning points requires an activated Ford Rewards account. Points have no cash value, and the listing describes their earning and redemption values as approximate, varying by product and service.
