What it is and who it suits

Gallery - Photo, Video & Home is a media organiser for photos and videos. It also includes an Android home screen and app drawer, which you can pick as your default Home app during setup. The listing aims it at people with large libraries who want to find older photos without scrolling a flat folder grid.

The home screen features include swiping from Home to open the gallery, a Cleaner shortcut on the opposite edge, app drawer search, Home shortcuts for frequently used apps, and a clock and gallery widget. The listing says the app contains ads and uses Google services for ads, consent and analytics.

Browsing a large library and managing albums

All shows photos and videos together, and Photos, Videos and Favourites narrow the view. Date-grouped grids are built for large libraries, and you can change the grid density. Search finds items without scrolling the whole library. From the viewer, you can swipe down or press Back to return to your place, check details, favourite items or share them.

Device albums display covers and item counts. You can create custom albums with your own names, sort albums and media, and add photos and videos to them. Deleting asks for confirmation, and supported deleted items can be recovered from the Bin.

Editing photos and making collages, GIFs and highlights

The viewer zooms and pans photos, and Enhance and creative effects change how a picture looks. Edits can be undone until you save, and saved results go to your media library. You can also set any photo as your wallpaper.

Creation tools make collages, GIFs and highlight pieces from your own media. The For You section also suggests some of these, as covered below.

Playing videos in the viewer

Videos open paused and begin only when you tap Play, and they start muted. Play, Pause, Seek, Forward, Back and Mute controls are available while you watch. You can browse nearby photos and videos without leaving the viewer.

Rediscovering memories with For You and face groups

For You shows highlights as full-screen stories that you can tap or swipe through, with progress indicators. You can like, share or delete from the viewer. Memories run from older moments to newer ones, and daily, monthly and yearly memory ideas appear when matching media exists. Places and trips come from location details in your media, and you can hide any memory, face, date or location you do not want featured.

According to the listing, people and face groups are processed on your device, with face discovery running in small batches. An optional face model can be downloaded for this. The listing says the app reads your media through Android's media library and does not upload your personal media.
