Genie Strings

Genie Strings turns any photo into a precise string art weaving template — giving you a complete nail-by-nail sequence you can follow on your actual board.

How it works?
Load a photo, set your board dimensions and color palette, and the app calculates the optimal thread path across hundreds of nails. When rendering is complete, export your template as a step-by-step instruction file and follow it on your physical board to recreate the portrait in thread.
Three portrait modes

Monochrome — Single black thread on a white board. Great for bold, high-contrast portraits.
Greyscale — Black and white threads combined for richer tonal depth.
Color — Full CMYK + RGB palette (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, White, Red, Green, Blue) for vivid, lifelike results.

Three board shapes

Circle — The classic string art format. Enter your board diameter in cm.
Square — Four-sided boards with evenly spaced nails on all sides.
Rectangle — Portrait or landscape orientation. Enter length and width independently.

The app automatically calculates how many nails you need based on your board size and nail distance, placing them at the correct spacing with a 1.5 cm border buffer — so your template matches your physical board exactly.

What you get?
After rendering, tap Export Art to purchase and save your template. The exported file contains a reader-friendly nail sequence — color by color, nail by nail — formatted so you can follow along without needing a screen. Use the companion Genie Reader app to have the instructions read aloud to you while you work.
Completed templates are saved to your device and also appear in My Templates inside the app, so you can re-share or re-download them any time.

Controls
Minimum Weaving Gap — controls how close together consecutive nails can be for a given color thread
Max Lines — set the total number of thread passes (1,000 to 25,000)
Color selection — choose exactly which thread colors to include in your portrait

Tips for best results
— Use a well-lit photo with a clear subject and good contrast
— For portraits, a plain or transparent background works best
— Higher max lines = more detail, but longer rendering time
— Start with the default settings for your first attempt
Important notes
— Rendering happens entirely on your device — no internet connection required
— Export for each template you are interested in requires a in-app purchase per generated template. Purchasing exports the current template and resets the app for your next portrait.
