What the app is for and who it suits
Glyph Museum is an Android app for the Glyph Matrix, the grid of LEDs on the back of Nothing Phone (3) and Phone (4a) Pro. It is for people who want to find other people's Glyph designs, post their own, or build patterns and animations to run on that back panel.
The app covers three things: browsing a shared collection, drawing or importing artwork, and deciding when each design plays. Each part is described below.
Browsing and following Glyph art by other artists
The collection can be sorted by trending, latest or random. Searches can be run by post, by tag or by user, so a person can look for a particular style or a particular creator. Designs can be liked, and the creators behind them can be followed.
Following creators is the way to keep up with new work from the same artists without searching again each time.
Drawing, importing and animating designs
Designs can be drawn directly on the matrix, with a preview that updates as each change is made. A photo taken with the built-in camera, or picked from the gallery, can be converted into glyph art.
Existing animations can be brought in as GIF or JSON files, or built frame by frame. Each edit is shown on the Glyph Matrix as it is made, so the result on the phone is visible without a separate step.
Assigning designs, timing and triggers
A design can be assigned to a frame, and the frame can be previewed on the phone before it is used. Timing, rotation, speed and effects can be adjusted for each animation.
Glyph designs can be set to run when the flashlight is switched on, when the phone starts charging, and on other triggers. Circular widgets in three sizes place the matrix controls on the home screen.
Profiles, badges and backing up your setup
A user profile holds a photo, a bio and social links. Badges are earned through achievements, and some achievements unlock additional frames and effects for the design tools.
The app can back up and restore a user's setup, which keeps saved designs and settings from being lost when the phone changes or the app is reinstalled.
