What kind of game this is and who it suits

Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about getting into a neighbor's house to find out what he keeps in his basement. You explore the house, work through puzzles and try to get out before he catches you. It is rated 12+.

The scares come from the situation rather than from scripted jumpscares. The game is a sandbox, so most of the fun is in trying different approaches and seeing what the house lets you do. It suits players who like trial and error and planning their own way through a problem.

Sneaking in, distracting and escaping

You can move through the backyard, climb in and pick your way through the rooms. Throwing objects, creating noise to pull the Neighbor away and hiding in the shadows are all ways to avoid being seen. Most objects, windows and doors can be used for something.

When a plan fails, you are expected to find another route. Each run tends to call for a different approach, which is why the game is built around improvising rather than memorising one path.

How the Neighbor adapts between attempts

The Neighbor's AI learns from how you play. If you keep using the same window, he may set a trap there. If you always leave by the same exit, he may block it on a later attempt.

Because of this, the house changes as you play. Each attempt can feel more unpredictable than the last, and an approach that worked once may not work again.

Puzzles, physics and hidden paths in the house

The physics system lets you stack boxes to reach higher spots, break into locked areas and try risky experiments. Searching rooms and unlocking hidden paths are how you uncover the secrets in the basement.

The puzzles and secrets are built into the same sandbox as the stealth, so solving a puzzle often means getting past the Neighbor at the same time.
