What kind of game Hero or Villain: Genesis is
Hero or Villain: Genesis is a text-based adventure built as a long branching story, written by Adrao and running to 460,000 words. Artwork appears alongside the text to set the scene, but the story itself is read rather than played through action.
It suits people who enjoy reading fiction they steer themselves and who want to decide whether their character does good or harm. The Teen content rating applies.
Playing as a hero or a villain
You choose which side your character takes. The listing describes a balancing act: keeping up a normal life while either fighting evil or causing trouble for the world.
Your choices decide how events unfold, so the same story can branch into different outcomes depending on which options you pick.
Story paths: hunting villains, joining a faction
One route has your hero tracking down villains to the far corners of the planet. Another has your character joining a group of fellow heroes or, if you prefer, a group of villains.
The main conflict centres on New York's criminal mastermind. Your character can defeat him or take his place, and the choice of path determines which ending you reach.
Reading the story and making choices
Everything runs through text. You read each passage, see the artwork that accompanies it, and select the option that moves the plot forward.
The listing describes the story as long, around 460,000 words, so a single run is a substantial reading project, with different branches for each set of choices.
