What the HSBC India app covers
HSBC India is the mobile banking app for the bank's existing customers in India. It handles most day to day banking on the phone: checking accounts, moving money, managing cards and loans, and looking at investments and insurance.
Most of its features sit behind an HSBC India login, so a customer can usually do from the phone what would otherwise need a branch visit or the desktop site. The listing presents it as one place for those tasks.
Opening an account and setting up online banking
New customers can open a bank account and register for online banking in the app, with no branch visit. Registration needs either the phone banking number or a PAN, and the listing describes it as a one time setup.
An unfinished application can be picked up again later. Existing customers can also reactivate an inoperative account, update their individual profile and KYC records, and generate an interest certificate for savings and fixed deposit accounts.
Logging in, security codes and sending money
Fingerprint ID can be used to log on, confirm transactions and edit the user profile. The listing says it works only on certain certified Android phones and points to the bank's website for the list.
The Digital Secure Key generates a security code for online banking, so no separate physical device is needed. Within the app, customers can see their accounts at a glance, add domestic payees, send local currency transfers, and send money abroad. The listing says international transfers run in over 20 currencies to more than 200 countries and territories, and that they carry no fee.
Investments, insurance and reward points
The Mobile Wealth Dashboard shows investment performance and lets customers manage transactions in one place. Mutual funds can be compared and bought in the app. Simply Invest links an HSBC account to retail broking through the referral partner ICICI Securities.
Insurance has two parts. A dashboard shows Canara HSBC Life policy details on the phone, and the insurance sales journey can pre-fill personal details with the customer's consent. Reward points can be redeemed for merchandise and e-gift cards, or transferred to more than 20 airline and hotel loyalty programs.
Cards, loans, statements and alerts
Credit and debit cards can be activated and have their PIN reset in the app. Customers can also consent to credit card over limit usage. Cash on EMI lets a credit card holder borrow cash and repay in instalments, and Loan on Phone turns several credit card transactions into one instalment plan.
Bank and credit card statements can be viewed and downloaded as eStatements. Eligible customers receive personalised in app messages about offers and reminders, and push notifications carry timely alerts and updates on the bank's services.
