What the HSBC Vietnam mobile banking app covers

This is HSBC's mobile banking app for customers in Vietnam. The developer says it was built specifically for that market, so it is aimed at people who bank with HSBC Vietnam or want to open an account with the bank there. It handles account opening and mobile banking registration as well as the day-to-day tasks covered below.

Opening an account and moving money

You can open a new account and register for mobile banking from the app itself. Bills can be paid from the phone at any time.

For transfers, the app lists two routes. An instant transfer goes through NAPAS 247, the Vietnamese interbank network. Alternatively, you can scan a payee's VietQR code to start a transfer, which the developer says takes only a few steps. Transfers abroad are covered by biometric verification, which the developer presents as an extra check before the money leaves.

Managing credit and debit cards

New credit and debit cards can be activated inside the app, and the card PIN can be reset there too. If a card is lost or you want to pause its use, you can temporarily block it and unblock it again from the app.

Credit card holders receive spending activity updates sent straight to their phone. The listing does not say how often these arrive or which transactions trigger them.

Term deposits

Open term deposits can be viewed and managed in the app. You can also update the maturity instructions for a term deposit, which set what happens when it matures.
