What Hulu for Android TV streams and who it suits

Hulu for Android TV is the living room version of the Hulu streaming service. It gives you Hulu's catalogue of movies, TV series and Hulu Originals such as The Handmaid's Tale, along with shows like This is Us and The Good Doctor. The developer also says Hulu now carries FX Networks, with more than 40 series plus new FX originals.

It suits people who already watch Hulu and want to do it from a TV. Sports and news are included only on the Live TV plan, so anyone mainly after live sports will need that tier.

Profiles, recommendations and a saved list

Each household can create up to six profiles, so everyone sees their own recommendations and their own record of what they have watched. The app builds a personalised library of series and films from that viewing.

My Stuff is a saved list. You add shows and movies to it and they sit there for quick access. The developer lists watching at home or on the go as part of the service.

Choosing between the three plans

The ad-supported Hulu plan gives access to thousands of episodes and movies with ads in between. Hulu (No Ads) removes the ads, except on a small number of shows that cannot be included because of streaming rights, which play with a short ad before and after each episode. It also lets you download select titles to watch offline.

Hulu + Live TV adds live and on-demand TV from more than 75 channels, including news, sports and anime, and includes the full streaming library on its ad-supported tier. The developer says no cable is needed and there are no equipment rental or installation fees.

Premium channels, sports and news

HBO, SHOWTIME, CINEMAX and STARZ can be added to a Hulu plan for an additional monthly fee. Their series then appear alongside the rest of the library in the app.

NFL and college football (CFB) games are listed for the football season, but they require the Live TV plan. The developer notes that regional restrictions and blackouts can limit which games are available.
