What the app is for
Income Expense is a personal finance app for recording money you receive and money you spend. The developer positions it for day-to-day expenses and for keeping a monthly household budget.
Everything is kept in one place, so cash, bank accounts, cards and wallets can all be tracked side by side. Each entry is a dated income or expense item that can be reviewed and totalled later.
Logging income and spending day to day
Each transaction can be filed under one of the built-in categories or under a category you create. Categories can be renamed or deleted, so the list can follow how you actually spend.
A note can be written against any entry, and a photo of a bill or receipt can be attached to it. Transactions that repeat, such as rent or a subscription, can have reminders set so they are not forgotten.
The app assigns each entry to a payment method, which lets you see how much went through cash compared with a card or a bank account.
Budgets, totals and spending charts
A monthly budget can be set for each category, so the amount spent against each limit is visible through the month. The developer also lists a running total of income, total expense and the remaining balance.
Pie charts break spending and income down by category. These show where the money in a given period went without needing to read through each entry.
Exporting PDF and Excel reports
Reports can be generated as PDF or Excel files. Before exporting, the records can be filtered by date, category, payment method, note text or amount, so a report covers only the entries you pick.
The Excel option suits anyone who wants to work with the figures in a spreadsheet, and the PDF option produces a fixed copy to keep or share.
Keeping records locked and backed up
Fingerprint password protection can be turned on to keep the records private. Data is stored on the device and can also be saved to a folder in your Google Drive.
