Introducing Instants, a new app from Instagram.
By Mei-Lin Chua
Contributing editor, apps and storefronts
Instants is a separate app from Instagram, made by the same developer. It is aimed at small, ordinary moments that people would not normally post to a feed, as opposed to the carefully finished pictures Instagram is known for.
The listing places it in the Social category and rates it 12+. It suits people who want to share something quickly from the camera without stopping to edit it.
Opening the app drops you into the camera. According to the developer, a single tap is enough to share, and the listing says there is no editing step in between.
The build we hold is Instants, an Instagram app 451.0.0.53.106 (APK) for Android 9.0 and up.

Because the camera is the starting point, the app is built around taking a moment as it happens rather than uploading a file from the gallery. The developer's description does not list filters, captions or other tools beyond this.
Each instant can be viewed while it is available. The developer says that once an instant is gone, it cannot be viewed again.
That makes the app a place for things seen in the moment, not an archive. Anyone who wants to see a post has to see it before it goes.
Instants is not limited to its own app. The listing says you can share instants from Instants or from Instagram, and view them from either one.
This means a person who already uses Instagram can post and browse instants there without a second habit to build, while still keeping the quick camera flow in a dedicated app.
