A self-study course app for English speakers

LingoDeer is a language course app for people learning a language on their own, without a teacher or classroom. Its courses are taught to English speakers and cover Korean, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Malay, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Spanish in Latin American or European form, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

The material runs from beginner to intermediate, up to the B1 level. It suits someone who wants a set order of lessons rather than picking phrases at random.

Following a structured course to build sentences

Lessons follow one sequenced path, and the stated aim is forming your own sentences rather than memorising set phrases from a phrasebook. Vocabulary and grammar are introduced in order, with grammar explained within the course.

Access to all courses and features requires a LingoDeer membership.

Reading non-Latin scripts and hearing native speech

For languages with their own writing systems, such as Korean and Japanese, the course teaches you to read and write the alphabet alongside the vocabulary.

Listening practice uses HD recordings made by native speakers, which you can use to train your ear and your pronunciation.

Review drills, progress stats and offline lessons

Review comes as flashcards, quizzes and targeted training exercises. The listing mentions short sessions such as five-minute quizzes, and speaking exercises on everyday topics like food allergies.
