What Mercado Play offers and who it suits

Mercado Play is a catalog of series and movies that you watch in the app at no cost. The developer, Mercado Libre, says the catalog holds thousands of titles and that none of them require a subscription. Google Play rates the app Teen, which is the level to keep in mind if you are choosing something for a younger viewer.

The developer pitches it as entertainment for the whole household. Adults looking for a free place to watch a wide mix of shows will find the breadth is the main draw. The family section is aimed at a different audience, covered below.

Finding series and movies by genre and era

The developer lists action, comedy, anime, drama, horror and fantasy-style adventure among the genres. Those six cover most of what people search for when they open a streaming app, so you can browse by mood without knowing a title in advance.

The catalog mixes older titles with newer ones. The developer describes its classics and its latest releases side by side, and says some of the series and films were well received by critics and audiences. The listing does not name specific titles, so the mix you see will depend on what the catalog holds when you open it.

Family viewing for children

The app has a family selection that the developer describes as safe and fun for children. The aim, as the listing puts it, is for younger members of the household to pick something to watch on their own. The developer does not explain how the family content is chosen or how it is separated from the rest of the catalog.

If you plan to hand the app to a child, the Teen rating on Google Play applies to the app as a whole, not only to the family selection.
