Messages: SMS & Phone Calls

What Messages covers and who it is for

If your day moves between a texting app and the phone's call log, Messages is meant to keep both in one place. It handles SMS texts and phone calls side by side, with an Inbox tab for messages and a Calls tab for call history. The listing presents it as a way to keep texts and calls together.

In the Inbox you can send and receive texts, photos and contact cards. You can pick someone from your contacts or type a number directly. The Calls tab lists incoming, outgoing and missed calls, so you can read a text and see who rang without leaving the app.

Ads appear in the app, according to the listing.

Sending texts, photos and scheduled messages

Texts are sent over your mobile network, according to the listing, so the app says you can text without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Photos and contact cards can be shared inside the chat itself.

Scheduling lets you write a text now and choose when it goes out. The listing gives the options as later today, tonight, tomorrow, or any date and time. It mentions birthday wishes, reminders and updates as the kinds of message this suits.

Because the send time is set in advance, a message can go out when you are not holding the phone. The listing does not describe how a scheduled text behaves if the phone is off at its send time.

Call history, call insights and the after-call screen

The Calls tab groups your history under Today and Yesterday, with favourite contacts listed first. Missed calls are shown in red, and saved contact names appear in place of raw numbers. A call button sits beside each entry for calling back, and tapping a contact opens more detail.

Open any contact to see call insights: the total number of calls, how many were incoming, how many were outgoing and how many were missed. The full call history with that person is shown below those figures.

When a call ends, the after-call screen offers a way to call back, send a follow-up text, or open a recent conversation. The listing says this happens without switching apps.

Keeping the inbox sorted and chats private

The Inbox separates messages into their own tabs: personal texts, transactions such as bank alerts, offers, and one-time codes. The listing says this keeps the messages you need from being buried under promotions and codes.

Individual chats can be pinned or archived, and single messages can be starred. You can block unwanted numbers. Chosen conversations can be locked behind a pattern, so they are hidden until the pattern is entered.

Backup and restore keeps a copy of your text messages so you can restore them later. The listing does not say where the copy is stored.

Chat colours, light and dark modes

Each conversation can have its own colour from 12 chat themes. A live preview shows the chosen colour before you save it.

The display can be set to light mode, dark mode, or follow the phone's own system setting.
