A visual timer for kids who struggle with time

Mouse Timer shows the length of a period as a picture instead of a bare number, which is the point of the design. The developer says it was built from requests by teachers and parents of children who attend LITALICO classrooms, where teachers and professors specialize in child development and education.

It is also meant as a normal timer for daily life, so it fits both a classroom routine and a home one. Parents and teachers can use it to mark out tasks, breaks or waiting time for a child who has trouble judging how long something lasts.

Watching time pass as a gnawing mouse

A small, greedy mouse gnaws through apples to express the time remaining. The listing presents the animation as the core of the app, so the length of a period is visible as something shrinking rather than something read off a clock face.

The mouse is the only character named in the listing. A white mouse is available as an extra, sold through an in-app purchase.

Setting alarms and pausing a countdown

Alarms are set only by choosing from the times the app displays, so there is no free-form entry of hours and minutes. The list of choices can be reduced, which lets a teacher or parent narrow it to the durations a particular child works with.

A running timer can be paused and resumed. When the set time arrives, the app sends a notification, and that notification still comes through when the app is not open on screen.

Using it at school and at home, free and without ads

The app is free to download and use. The listing says it shows no advertisements, and ties that to children being able to use it safely without distracting screens.

The only paid item the listing names is the white mouse, which is unlocked through an in-app purchase. Everything else described, including the timer, the times and the alerts, is part of the free app.
