What the app covers and who it suits

Notepad is a notes app that also handles checklists, reminders and calendar entries. Most of its features are about writing something down quickly and finding it again later.

The listing points at shopping lists, to-do lists, wish lists and general memos as the main uses. It describes the app as free to use.

If you mainly want a place to dump thoughts and tick off tasks, the set of features is built for that. It has no project boards, shared workspaces or file attachments listed.

Writing, saving and formatting notes

Notes save automatically while you write and when you leave the app, so you do not need a save step. The listing gives no limit on how many notes you can create or how long each one can be.

The editor is rich-text. You can change font size, italicise or underline text, and build bulleted or numbered lists inside a note.

Each note can be given a colour. Colour is the app's way of sorting notes into groups, for example work tasks in one colour and weekend plans in another.

Checklists, pinned items and reminders

Checklists are notes with checkboxes. You can use them for to-dos, grocery lists or wish lists and tick items off as you go.

Any note or checklist can be pinned so it stays easy to reach at the top of your list. Reminders can be set for tasks you do not want to miss.

Deleted notes go to a trash folder. From there you can restore a note or delete it for good.

Calendar view and adding items to a calendar

The calendar view shows your notes and tasks laid out by date. This is the place to check what is due on a given day.

You can also add a note or task directly to your device calendar. That keeps dated items in the same place as your appointments.

Used together with reminders, the calendar features are meant to help you keep track of deadlines rather than to replace a full scheduling app.

Searching, sharing and exporting notes

Search runs from a bar in the app. Type a keyword or phrase and it finds the notes that contain it, which helps when you have many notes stored.

Notes can be exported as PDF files. Shared notes go out through email, social media and other messaging apps.
