Peak Names: Mountain Finder AR — description
It does not just list every summit within a radius. The app works out from the real terrain which peaks you can actually see from where you stand, and which ones are hidden behind a ridge, so the names stay on the mountains you are looking at.
SEE THE NAMES
• Names, heights and distances of the summits in view, on the camera or on a drawn skyline
• Well-known peaks first; choose Major, More or All to show fewer or more names
• Turn the phone sideways for a wide panorama
• Hold the view, lower your phone and read the names at your leisure
LINE IT UP IN ONE TAP
Phone compasses are often off by a few degrees. If the names sit beside the peaks, tap a name, then tap the real summit in the picture: everything moves into place. No need to wave the phone around and hope.
FIND ANY PEAK
• A list of every named summit in view, with direction and distance
• Pick one and an arrow on the camera shows which way to turn
• "View from top": see the panorama from any summit before you climb it
SUN OVER THE RIDGE
Today's sunrise and sunset over the actual mountains around you, not over a flat horizon, and the Sun's path drawn on the skyline. Handy for the first light on a summit or for knowing when the valley goes into shade.
SHARE THE VIEW
Take a photo with the peak names on it, save it or send it to friends.
WORKS OFFLINE
Download an area once (usually around 10 MB) while you have a signal. After that the names, the skyline and the camera view work with no connection at all, which is where you need them. No account, no sign-in, no ads.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Try it anywhere: famous viewpoints in the Alps and in Vietnam are built in.
• Accuracy depends on your phone's compass and GPS. The terrain model has 90 m detail around you and 180 m further out, so very sharp summits come out a little low.
• The app is not a navigation tool. Always carry a proper map in the mountains.
• Peak names © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Terrain: Copernicus WorldDEM-90 © DLR e.V. and Airbus Defence and Space GmbH, provided under COPERNICUS by the European Union and ESA. Magnetic model: World Magnetic Model 2025 (NOAA / BGS).
