What the app is for

Phone Number Location Tracker is a family tracking app published by Midgard Production in the Tools category on Google Play. Its stated purpose is keeping track of where children and other relatives are. The listing aims it at parents and family members who want to know a person's whereabouts at a given time.

On Google Play the listing shows 5,000,000+ installs and an average rating of 4.06 from 318,300 ratings.

Checking where family members are

The app shows the real-time location of family members. The listing says this works while they are at home, at school or somewhere else. Its main use is checking on someone who is away from home, such as a child on the way to or from school.

Location comes from GPS, which the listing names as the basis for the tracking.

Tracking phones and monitoring apps

Beyond locating people, the app tracks phones. The listing says you can follow a child's or another family member's phone and see which apps that phone uses. The developer ties this to a child's online safety.

Both features work on the phone of the person being tracked, so they concern devices held by others rather than your own phone.

How location data is handled

The listing says location data is kept private inside the app and is shared only with you. That is the only sharing the listing describes.
