What the PlayCard prepaid card is
PlayCard is a prepaid Debit Mastercard issued by Pathward, Member FDIC, and the PlayCard Mobile App is the way to manage it. The developer, Netspend Corporation, aims it at people who spend gaming money at casinos, online betting sites and fantasy sports platforms. You put money on the card first and spend against that balance.
Loading money onto the card
Funds can come from personal debit cards you link in the app. Direct deposits can also be routed to the PlayCard, so money arrives without a manual load. Transfers typically post within minutes, though the developer says some can take up to two business days. Fees and limits apply to loads and reloads.
Spending at gaming sites and cash access
The developer says the card works at most casinos, online betting sites and fantasy sports sites wherever Debit Mastercard is accepted. It also states that Netspend does not offer gaming services and that the card cannot be used to gamble directly. Card activation and identity verification are required before full use. Until verification is complete, you may still be able to make in-store purchases, but ATM withdrawals, international transactions, account-to-account transfers and additional loads are restricted.
Managing the account from a phone
The mobile app lets you check and manage the account from wherever you are. The developer says Netspend does not charge for the app, though your wireless carrier may charge for text messages or mobile data used with it.
