Your address book is one of the most sensitive things on your phone. Private Contacts keeps it that way: an offline contacts book that asks for NO permissions, NEVER touches the network, and stores everything in the app's own private folder. No account, no sign-up, no cloud, no tracking.
🛡️ ZERO PERMISSIONS — REALLY ZERO
Open your system settings and check: this app declares no permissions at all. Not contacts, not storage, not camera, not internet. Nothing to grant, nothing to leak. Every feature that would normally need a permission is instead handed to the system apps you already trust.
📵 NO NETWORK, EVER
The app has no way to reach the internet. Your data cannot be uploaded, synced or "backed up to us" — because there is no us. Everything lives on your device, in a private directory other apps can't read.
🔄 BACKUP YOU CONTROL
The one exception is Android's own Auto Backup: if you leave it enabled, the system may copy the app's files to your personal Google account — handled entirely by Android, never by us. When encryption is on, only the encrypted blob is ever backed up, and you can turn Auto Backup off in your device settings. You can also export a manual copy anytime.
🔐 OPTIONAL PIN ENCRYPTION
Turn on encryption with a single switch and protect the whole book with a PIN:
• AES-256-GCM encryption with an Argon2id key derived from your PIN
• Built to resist forensic extraction — chip-off, custom recovery, adb backup, cloud backup
• Without the PIN, even a full image of your storage is unreadable
• No secret backdoor, no cloud reset: your PIN is the only key. If you lose it, the data is gone — and that's the point.
