What Pydroid 3 is for
Pydroid 3 is an IDE for writing and running Python 3 programs on an Android phone or tablet. The developer says its main purpose is teaching Python, and it ships with example programs to start from. The interpreter works offline, so a program can run without a network connection.
Most of the work goes into scientific and educational libraries, not system tooling. The listing says system libraries are only added when another educational package depends on them. Someone learning data analysis, plotting or introductory GUI programming is the reader this suits most closely.
Writing and editing Python code on a phone
The editor has tabs, syntax highlighting with selectable themes, and an extended keyboard bar that puts the Python symbols within reach of the thumb. Go-to navigation jumps to the assignment or definition of a name. Code prediction, auto indentation and real-time code analysis are listed as premium-only.
Finished code can be shared to Pastebin with one click, which is useful when asking someone to look at a program.
Installing libraries and building native packages
Pip is included, and a custom repository supplies prebuilt wheel packages for libraries such as numpy, scipy, matplotlib, scikit-learn and jupyter. A Quick Install repository adds PySide6 and Kivy support for matplotlib. The listing says OpenCV, TensorFlow and PyTorch are premium-only, and that some other libraries are provided only to premium users under a separate agreement with a porting developer.
A built-in C, C++ and Fortran compiler lets pip build libraries that contain native code. Dependencies can also be built and installed from a command line inside the app. Cython is supported as well.
Debugging, terminal use and graphical programs
The PDB debugger supports breakpoints, set by clicking a line number, and watch expressions. A full terminal emulator is included, with readline available through pip. Programs that open windows can use Tkinter, Kivy with an SDL2 backend, pygame 2 or PySide6.
The app chooses how to run a program by looking for imports such as kivy, PySide6, sdl2, tkinter or pygame. A comment line such as #Pydroid run terminal forces terminal mode, which matters for matplotlib because it opens a GUI window by default.
