What Qwant is and who it is for
Qwant is a search engine that has been built around privacy since 2013. The developer says it does not collect personal data by default, so searches are not tied to a profile of the person making them.
On a phone, the Qwant app also works as a full web browser. It is aimed at people who want to search and browse without their search history being kept or sold.
Private web search on Android
Search history stays private in the app, and the developer states that user data is never sold. The developer also says Qwant has no record of what its users search for.
This matters most for people who do not want their queries stored or used to build an advertising profile. Searching works the same way whether you are at home or out.
Browsing with ad blocking and tabs
The browser includes ad blocking, tabs for keeping several pages open at once, and a private browsing mode. These are listed as core parts of the browser, so searching and browsing happen in one app.
Tabs let you move between pages without starting a new search each time. Private browsing is the mode for sessions you want kept apart from your regular browsing.
Clearing browsing data with Zap
The Zap button deletes all of your browsing data in a single click. The developer presents this as a replacement for going through settings and removing trackers and cookies one at a time.
Zap can be used before or after any session on Qwant, so the data from each visit can be cleared as often as you like.
