Senior reviews editor

What Remote For Whirlpool AC is
Remote For Whirlpool AC is a remote control app for Whirlpool air conditioners. It is meant for people who would rather adjust their unit from a phone than from the handset that came with it.
The app runs on phones that have a built-in infrared emitter, since that is how it sends commands to the air conditioner. A phone without one cannot act as the remote.
Setup and how the phone connects to the unit
The developer says the app needs no setup. It works through the phone's infrared hardware, so the phone has to be pointed toward the unit in the same way a physical remote would be.
The developer's description also says the app syncs with the phone to control the climate. No other connection, such as Wi-Fi or a hub, is named.
Controlling cooling from a phone
According to the developer, the app lets you set the temperature and cooling output of a Whirlpool unit from your phone. It also describes the settings as personalized.
The listing does not name individual modes, schedules or timers, so the exact controls available depend on what the app's screens show.
Who the app suits
The app suits owners of Whirlpool air conditioners whose phone has an infrared emitter and who want a phone in place of the original remote.
The developer states that the app is independent and is not affiliated with Whirlpool Corporation.
