RTÉ Listen

What RTÉ Listen covers

RTÉ Listen is the audio app from RTÉ, the broadcaster behind the stations it plays. It brings live radio, recorded shows and short clips into one place. The listing presents it as a way to hear news, music and documentary-style storytelling from RTÉ without switching between schedules.

The app suits people who already follow RTÉ radio or its presenters and want to listen to them on a phone. Its live and on-demand parts work without an account. Saving, queueing and downloading need one.

Live radio stations on the player

The live player streams RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM, RTÉ lyric fm, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and RTÉ Gold. Raidió na Gaeltachta is the Irish-language station in that set. Each station plays as a live stream, so you pick a channel and listen as it goes out.

On-demand episodes and resuming shows

The on-demand section plays full episodes of RTÉ shows after they have aired. The listing names Brendan O'Connor, Marty in the Morning, Morning Ireland and 2FM Drive with Laura and Katja as examples. The app can pick a show back up from where you left off, so you can split a long programme across several sittings.

Podcasts sit alongside the on-demand shows. The listing describes them as part of the same catalogue of audio from RTÉ.

Trending clips from RTÉ programmes

The trending clips section collects the interviews people are discussing most, along with the best short moments from across the RTÉ schedule. It works as a way to catch a conversation or a segment without listening to the full programme it came from.

Accounts, favourites, queues and downloads

Creating an account lets you mark shows as favourites, manage a play queue and download episodes for listening on the go. The listing ties all three to the account, so they are not available to someone who has not signed up. Downloaded episodes are for times when you want to listen away from a connection.
