Irish and international news from RTÉ

RTÉ News is the news app from the Irish broadcaster RTÉ. It covers both Irish and international stories, with reporting and analysis written by RTÉ's own journalists.

The app is aimed at people who want the day's news from an Irish source, whether they read it, watch it, or follow a story as it moves.

Following live events and breaking news

Breaking news alerts notify readers when a major story comes in. Live blogs run through major news events, so the latest updates build up in one place as the story develops.

Live video streams carry news as it happens, for readers who would rather watch an event unfold than read about it afterwards.

Watching on-demand and vertical video

Beyond live output, the app offers on-demand video for stories that have already aired. Vertical video and short reels are built for phone viewing, so clips fill the screen when held upright.

The listing describes vertical video as a format in its own right, separate from the wider video catalogue.

Reading across news, sport and entertainment

Coverage is split across News, Sport, Business, Culture, Lifestyle and Entertainment. A reader who only wants one area can stay within it, while the rest of the output stays available.

Stories come with in-depth reporting and expert analysis from RTÉ journalists, which the listing presents as a step beyond headlines alone.

Saving topics and stories to return to

Readers can save individual stories and whole topics, so they can find them again without searching. This suits people who follow a particular subject across several days.
