What RTÉ Player is for

RTÉ Player is the streaming app from RTÉ, the Irish public broadcaster. It gives access to RTÉ's television output both as live channels and as shows you can watch whenever you like.

The catalogue covers drama series from Ireland and abroad, soap operas, live sport and entertainment programmes. It is aimed at people who follow RTÉ's output at home.

Watching live channels

The app carries RTÉ One, RTÉ2, RTÉ News and RTÉ Kids, and you can move between them from inside the app. This suits viewers who want a live channel on a phone or tablet away from the television.

Live sport and the news channel are both available as live streams alongside the on-demand library.

Finding shows and picking up where you stopped

A discovery section lists the programmes people are talking about most. Signing in lets the app remember where you stopped in a show and resume it on any device you use.

Signed-in viewers also get recommendations based on their viewing. Favouriting a programme adds it to a watchlist, so you can return to it later without searching again.

Accessibility: sign language and audio description

Some shows include in-vision Irish Sign Language, where an interpreter appears on screen alongside the programme. Others carry audio description, a spoken narration of on-screen action for viewers who cannot see it.

The listing does not tie these options to a specific set of programmes, so they are available on the shows that carry them rather than across the whole catalogue.

RTÉ Player Kids and sharing favourites

RTÉ Player Kids is a separate section for children, with RTÉjr programmes available live and on demand. It is built for younger viewers who need a simpler path into children's programming than the main app.

You can share favourited programmes with friends from within the app through social sharing options.
