What the app calculates for a satellite dish
Satellite Director is a tool for aiming a TV satellite dish or antenna. Normally, finding the azimuth means combining your GPS position, magnetic variation, the compass reading and the satellite's position before a compass can be used. The app does that arithmetic for you and reduces the job to following an arrow.
The developer describes it as the replacement for those manual steps. It is aimed at people setting up a satellite dish who want the bearing without working through the numbers themselves.
Aiming the dish with the compass arrow
The main screen shows an arrow pointing along the calculated azimuth. You turn the phone or tablet until the arrow lines up with the direction the dish needs to face. The listing notes that the app uses your device's compass, so the result depends on that sensor.
The developer warns that some phone compasses are inaccurate and advises comparing the reading with a real compass before relying on it. The listing also points to a separate app, Satellite Locator, which uses GPS to find a satellite.
Lining up the LNB arm with the camera view
A camera mode imitates a look-through view, sometimes called a mirror effect. The arrow is displayed over the camera image, so you can line the dish's LNB arm up with the arrow while looking through the screen at the real dish.
This is the step where the arm is set against the target direction, rather than only pointing the phone.
Editing the satellite list and saving screenshots
The satellite list can be changed. You can add satellites, delete ones you do not need, or edit existing entries, so the list can match the satellites you actually want to receive.
The app can also save a screenshot to storage. The listing does not say what the screenshot contains, so it is best read as a saved copy of the screen.
