SecureME – Launcher, Lock

What SecureME is for

SecureME is a kiosk launcher for Android. It swaps the usual home screen for one that only gives access to the apps you choose, so a device stays on a defined set of tasks.

The developer describes it as a way to stop users from reaching apps or activity outside that set. It is aimed at devices that should be used for one purpose rather than as a general phone or tablet.

Replacing the home screen with a locked layout

The launcher takes the place of the default home screen. Its screen is customizable, and it shows only the apps you select.

Because the home screen is the main entry point, controlling it controls what the user can open. Other apps stay out of reach unless they are on the selected list.

Keeping off-task apps and data use in check

According to the developer, blocking access to unintended apps also limits unnecessary data use and off-task activity on the device.

This is the practical side of the lockdown: the device is kept to the apps it was set up for, which limits what it can spend data on.

Personalized kiosk modes and MDM

SecureME offers personalized kiosk modes, which let the set of allowed apps and the screen be configured to suit a particular use. The app is also associated with MDM (mobile device management), which is the usual way organizations manage many devices at once.
